Juanico, Dolores Aragon – Water Jar “1890-1900 Designs” with Checkerboard and Flowers, Ribbon
$ 800.00
Dolores Juanico Aragon is a daughter of Marie S. Juanico and a granddaughter of Dolores Sanchez. She learned to make pottery from her mother. Each piece is coil built, painted with bee-weed (black), and painted with native clay slips. Much of Dolores’s pottery is inspired by historic Acoma vessels. This jar is a classic Acoma shape with a round shoulder and a short neck. It was inspired by a classic Acoma jar from the 1890-1900 period. There is a tightly painted checkerboard pattern around the neck and in squares around the side. There are additional flowers and thin rain lines. It is a striking use of design, white space, and classic designs. It is signed on the bottom, “D. J. Aragon”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, restoration, or repair. There is a second place ribbon from the 2010 Santa Fe Indian Market.
