$ 1,200.00

Josephine Arquero (1928-2019) was the daughter of Damacia Cordero and the sister of Martha Arquero, Marie Laweka and Gloria Herrera.  She learned to make pottery from her mother and began making pottery in the 1940s and then storytellers in the late 1960s.  Her storytellers always have distinctive faces.  This is one of her grandfather storytellers with eight children.  The piece is made from native clay and slipped with white Cochiti clay and then painted with bee-weed and red clay slips.  It is a complex piece with each of the children painted differently in style.  The storyteller is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is signed on the bottom, “Josephine Arquero”.
