This is a new high shoulder jar by Daniel Begay. The piece is coil-built, carved, stone-polished, and traditionally fired. The jar has a high, round shoulder and a short neck. The jar has four heartline bears. Each bear is different in terms of polishing and matte combinations. Below the bears, two have Daniel’s waterfall design. The other two have clouds and waves. The cloud and wave designs are complex and contrast polished and matte surfaces. The jar is very deeply carved and Daniel has a beveled appearance to the angle of the cuts into the clay. Areas are stone polished to a high shine and create a striking contrast of matte and polished surfaces on this jar. The top section of the jar is slipped with mica, creating a contrast of matte, polished, and micaceous surfaces. The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Daniel Begay ’25”.

This is a new wide shoulder jar by Daniel Begay. The piece is coil-built, carved, stone-polished, and traditionally fired. The jar has a wide shoulder and short neck. The neck and base are fully polished. The top of the shoulder has two carved deer as the design. They are separated by carved feather, cloud and step designs. The jar is very deeply carved and Daniel has a beveled appearance to the angle of the cuts into the clay. It is a complex and striking piece! Areas are stone polished to a high shine and create a striking contrast of matte and polished surfaces on this jar. The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Daniel Begay ’25”.
