Boone, Lena – Large Zuni Fetish Jar with 10 Fetishes (1980s)

Lena Boone (d. 2024) was known for her Zuni fetishes.  She was a daughter of Edna Leki (1924-2003) and a granddaughter of Teddy Weahkee.  Her sister Dinah Gasper, and son, Anderson Weahkee, are also well-known carvers.  This is one of her classic Zuni fetish bowls.  It is a classic shape and the exterior is covered in turquoise chips.  There are eight large fetishes tied onto the outside and two inside.  They are made from flourite, travertine, alabaster, and dolomite.  The piece Is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  I had the opportunity to meet Lena Boone many times as she would come each summer to Estes Park for a Zuni Fetish show.  Her fetish bowls are a classic!
