Cain, Joy – 9″ Wide Bowl with Carved Avanyu
$ 1,200.00
Joy Cain (b. 1947) is a daughter of Mary Cain and a sister of noted potters Tina Diaz, Linda Cain, and Billy Cain. She began making pottery in 1965, but makes almost no pottery today. This is the largest piece of her pottery we have had in the gallery. It is fully carved and polished on the outside. The bowl has an avanyu that encircles the entire piece. There is a striking complexity in the design across the piece. It was traditionally fired to a dark black coloration. The bowl is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Joy Cain”.
