Cain, Linda – Red Seedpot with Impressed Avanyu and Raincloud (1987)

4"w x 3.5"h

$ 700.00

This is an unusual seedpot by Linda Cain.  Linda is a daughter of Mary Cain and the mother of Tammy Garcia and Autumn Borts.  This piece is coil-built, carved and fully polished.  There is an impressed (carved then polished over) avanyu on the piece.  There is a more deeply carved lightning bolt tongue. The style of the avanyu is inspired by the work of her great-grandmother Sarafina Tafoya (see last photo).  The entire piece is fully polished and traditionally fired. There is a TINY raincloud etched into the top.  This is an interesting piece, as it is more about feel than anything else. You want to touch the groves carved into the clay.  The surface is silky smooth from the polishing.  And the tiny raincloud you can see has tiny etched lines of rain, but again, you feel it before you see it.  The seedpot has some color variations from the firing.  A fascinating piece! It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Linda Cain”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
