Joseph Cerno is known for his large coil-built vessels. He also makes pieces with his wife, Barbara. The jar is coil-built, and it is a classic water jar or “olla” shape with a high shoulder and an elongated neck. The design is complex and fluid across the entire surface. The neck of the jar has a cloud pattern polished red. There are antelope on the top of the shoulder and near the base. Around the center are plant designs surrounded by fine-lines. There are large plant patterns connecting the smaller plant designs. The jar was traditionally fired. It is signed on the bottom “Barbara & Joseph Cerno”. It is from the early 2008 and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. There is a blue ribbon from the 2009 Santa Fe Indian Market.
