Denise Chavarria is a daughter of noted potter Stella Chavarria and a granddaughter of Teresita Naranjo. She is known for her contemporary pottery. This jar is fully carved with an old-style avanyu, clouds, and rain patterns. The carving is fluid and much of the design on this piece is reminiscent of the pottery of her grandmother, Teresita. It is fully polished and fired a deep black. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Denise Chavarria”.
