Clara Chavez (1922-1984) was a daughter of noted Acoma potter Mary Histia. This jar is coil-built from native clay, and it is painted with bee-weed (black) and clay slips. The bowl has two Acoma birds on each side with red painted heads. Between them is an old-style butterfly. The bowl traditionally fired so it has some color variation on the surface. It is signed, “C. Chavez”. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
