Clara Chavez (1922-1984) was a daughter of noted Acoma potter Mary Histia. This jar is coil-built from native clay, and it is painted with bee-weed (black). The neck and base have fine-line raincloud designs. The central band has fine-line stars. It is thin-walled and delicately painted. The jar was traditionally fired so it has some color variation on the surface. It is signed, “Clara H. Chavez”. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
