This is an intricately painted jar by Dolores Curran. It is polished red and then painted buff-on-red. Did you know that for her painted designs, Dolores paints over the designs between four and five times? First, she has to polish the piece, and then the designs are painted onto the surface. The first time is to outline the design, over the same area to deepen the outline coloration. Then the designs are filled in and then painted over again. Finally, the entire piece is painted over one more time for consistency in color! This jar has a round body and an elongagted neck. The neck is painted with feathers. The body of the jar has rain and cloud designs. There is so much detail and precision on this piece; it is quite amazing in person. The piece is signed on the bottom, “Dolores Curran”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
