Carlos Dunlap was a son of Carmelita Dunlap and a grandson of Juanita Montoya Vigil, the youngest sister of Maria Martinez. He was a brother to Jeannie Dunlap, Cynthia Dunlap, Linda Dunlap, and Martha Appleaf Fender. This bowl has a sharp shoulder and sloping side. It is fully polished and painted with 32 feathers encircling the piece. The bowl was fired to a dark black coloration. It is signed, “Sunrise Dunlap” in the clay on the bottom. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. A striking and classic piece of his pottery.

He created very large vessels in colorations that ranged from black to polychrome and a distinctive brown. However, it was his painting which remains so spectacular as it was very open and varied in style.
