Dunlap, Carlos – Clay Cow with Polished Body (1967)

6.5" long x 5.75"h

$ 375.00

Carlos Dunlap was a son of Carmelita Dunlap and a grandson of Juanita Montoya Vigil, the youngest sister of Maria Martinez.  He was a brother to Jeannie Dunlap, Cynthia Dunlap, Linda Dunlap, and Martha Appleaf Fender.   This is an unusual piece that he made when he was only 9 years old. The collectors who owned this piece were friends of the family and purchased it from Carmelita.  The piece is a black fired standing cow.  It is actually well sculpted and the back and outside of the legs are fully polished.  It was traditionally fired a glassy black. It is a creative piece and a distinctive part of his history in clay.  It is signed, “Carlos Dunlap” in the clay on the bottom.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
