Susan Folwell is known for her innovative and unique Santa Clara pottery. This jar has a round body and a sloping neck. The neck of the jar is polished gray on one side. That side is matte below the shoulder. Below the shoulder, the jar is etched with the Folwell family’s “x’s”. There are also two frogs etched into the surface of the jar. The designs on their bodies inspired the mosaic designs on the back half of the jar. The frogs are also slipped with mica to give them a bit of sparkle. The mosaics are etched into the clay and swirl across the surface of the piece. Each of the sections has a subtle variation in color. The jar is signed, “Susan Folwell” on the bottom.

It has polished geometric shapes that are etched with the Folwell family “x’s”. There are additional lizards that are etched and painted onto the jar, encompassing the surface. The remainder of the jar is slipped white. The lizards and geometric shapes are a contrast of colorations, polished, and matte surfaces. The jar is signed, “Folwell” on the bottom.
