This large jar is by Susan Folwell. It is part of her Route 66 series. The jar has an almost Sikyatki form with a wide shoulder and short neck. The piece is made from white micaceous clay. Susan said when she was driving through the Painted Desert, it was the vast horizons along with the colors of the sand, that created this idea. The jar is painted with the gray “highway”, but on in small areas. It is obscured by the colorful sand and horizons. Susan says at times, driving there, they almost meld into one another and she wanted to create a similar idea with his large jar. It is simple in form, but elegant within that simplicity. It is signed, “Susan Folwell”.
