Fragua, Glendora – Tan Jar with Sun, Lizard, and Coral Insets

Glendora Fragua is known for her polished and intricately incised pottery. This jar is fully polished tan, the natural color of the clay. The jar is one of her larger pieces and the front is fully polished red. It is etched with a Mimbres lizard and a Sun design. There are additional sand and mountain patterns. After the firing, there are two pieces of inset coral. The piece is signed on the bottom with a corn stalk, Glendora’s hallmark. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.

Glendora Fragua is known for her polished and intricately incised pottery. This jar is fully polished tan, the natural color of the clay. The jar has three suns etched into the clay. There is an additional large Rainbow Yei figure. The designs are etched and highlighted with additional clay slips for coloration. The jar was fired, and there are coral insets in each of the designs. The jar has a lid that is also polished tan. The piece is signed on the bottom with a corn stalk, Glendora’s hallmark. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. There is a ribbon from the 1993 NAAI Art Show in Fountain Hills, Arizona.

Glendora Fragua is a daughter of Juanita Fragua and the sister of BJ Fragua and sculptor Cliff Fragua. She has won numerous awards for her pottery and has been featured in a variety of books on contemporary innovative potters. She signs her pottery with a Corn Stalk hallmark.
