Juanita Fragua was known for classic Jemez pottery and was the mother of potters BJ Fragua and Glendora Fragua and son Cliff Fragua, who is a well-known sculptor.  This is one of her classic polychrome vessels. The pitcher has a braided handle and it is fully polished. The piece is painted with corn and feather patterns around the shoulder and neck.  The remainder of the jar is fully polished tan, the natural color of the clay.  The inside of the neck has her signature lightning bolt.  It is signed on the bottom, “Juanita Fragua”. The jar is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
