This is a classic bowl by Gloria Garcia.  It is fully polished and fired red. There is a Mimbres-style fisherman on half the bowl.  He is holding a fishing spear.  Below the figures are five etched fish.  Each fish is different.  The head of the figure is set with a piece of turquoise.  There are areas that are more lightly etched to create a contrast with the polished surface.  This piece is signed on the bottom with her Tewa name “GoldenRod”.

Gloria Garcia (b.1942) is the daughter of Petra Gutierrez and a sister of potters Minnie Vigil, Lois Gutierrez, and the mother of Jason Garcia. Gloria is known for her intricately incised miniature pottery. Gloria has won numerous awards for her pottery over the years at Santa Fe Indian Market and has pottery in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC.
