Barbara Gonzales is a great-great-granddaughter of Maria Martinez.  She is known for her innovative pottery, which combines etched designs along with inset stones.  Her four sons, Cavan, Brandon, Aaron, and Derek have all made pottery.  The small seedpot is by Barbara.  It is fully polished and fired black. The rim was two-toned sienna.  There are three spiders as the design in the web. The larger spider has two inset hei-shi beads. The smaller two are on the web to the left of the larger one.  The second piece is a clay turtle by her son Derek.  It came in the same collection and the charming part is the business card with the turtle.  The turtle is made from clay, and has inset hei-shi beads for the eyes. The card says it was made by Derek when he was 3 years old.  They are both in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  The seedpot is signed, “Than-Moo-Whe”, which is her name in Tewa.  The turtle is signed, “Derek”.
