This bowl by John Gonzales is from 1999.  It is a classic round shape with an incised band around the body of the bowl.  The rim and base are black.  They are separated from the main band of the bowl by rows of turquoise hei-shi beads.  The design is an incised avanyu that encircles the piece.  There is a single inset piece of turquoise for the eye.  The bowl is signed, “John Gonzales.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.

John Gonzales

John Gonzales is the grandson of Juan and Ramona Gonzales and the nephew of Juanita and Louis “Wo-Peen” Gonzales.  His father was noted potter Lorenzo Gonzales and his aunt was Blue Corn.  John learned to make pottery from his father.  His pottery is a distinctive blend of matte surfaces, incised designs and inset stones.
