Honyouti, Mavasta – “Corn and Rainbows” Relief-Carved Cottonwood Plaque
$ 650.00
Mavasta Honyouti is a skilled Hopi Katsina carver from Hotevilla Third Mesa; He is Ronald Honyouti’s son and Clyde Honyouti’s Grandson, both skilled Hopi Katsina carvers. He is well known for his scenes carved in low-relief. This piece is carved in relief and the base part is made from several different woods (see the back). The front is carved in relief with a rainbow extending across the surface. There is a large corn plant, a Tewa Sun, and other katsina face designs. It is a complex and creative piece that combines his minimalist Hopi style with his unique colorations and multi-level carving. Definitely an exciting new piece. It is signed on the back, “M. Honyouti”.
