Barbara Johnson was a daughter of noted Maricopa potter Mabel Sunn. This jar is a classic bowl shape for Maricopa pottery. The entire piece is fully polished. The black designs are derived from a mixture of mesquite sap and cactus spines. The imagery is a river and mountain pattern. The bowl is signed on the bottom in the clay, “B. J”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
