6" Tall

$ 200.00

Marie Juanico (1937-2024) learned to make pottery from her mother, Dolores Sanchez (who lived to be 103!).  Marie began making pottery in 1962.  She is known for her innovative use of various colors of clay slips on her pottery.  Her daughter, Delores Juanico Aragon, continues to make pieces in a similar style. This is one of her figurative pieces.  It is a Corn Maiden with sculpted kernels of corn.  It is also a storyteller with two children among the kernels!  The “husk” of the corn is fully painted with rain and cloud designs.   It is signed on the bottom,  “M. S. Juanico”.   It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
