Kahe-Charley, Karen – 12″ Wide Jar with Swirling Hopi Birds

12"w x 5"h

$ 1,600.00

Karen Kahe Charley is a daughter of Marcella Kahe. She learned to make pottery from her mother in 1980. This jar is coil-built, stone-polished, painted with bee-weed and red clay, and traditionally fired.  The jar has a wide shape and a short neck with turned-out rim.  The jar has six panels of design, each painted with swirling birds.  They are highly detailed with small lines and classic Hopi-Tewa imagery.  The jar was traditionally fired to create the blushes on the surface.  The jar is signed on the bottom with Karen’s hallmark.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
