Lewis, Carmel – Five-Color Water Jar with Birds & Rainbow (1998)

6.75"w x 5.75"h

$ 600.00

Carmel Lewis was the youngest daughter of noted potter Lucy Lewis.  This is one of the most complicated pieces of her work we have had in the gallery.  It is a water jar with a high shoulder and a short neck.  The neck has rain designs.  Around the body of the jar are large red polished Acoma birds.  They are each next to tightly painted plants.  There are rainbows painted with two colors.  Below the rainbows are tan-painted birds, again, with more flowers.  It is a larger piece of her work and wonderfully complex in design and color!  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Carmel Lewis”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
