Lewis, Drew – Large Water Jar with Acoma Birds and Rainbows (1986)

9"w x 8"h

$ 900.00

Drew Lewis was a son of noted potter Lucy M. Lewis.  This is an exceptional larger jar made in 1986.  The jar is coil-built and painted with bee-weed (black) and clay slips.  There are three birds as the design.  Two are parrots and one is an Acoma bird. The birds are all painted under rainbows and rainclouds.  They are separated by plant designs and flowers.  It is a creative and flowing design that accentuates the form and the detail of his painting.   The piece is signed on the bottom, “Drew Lewis”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is not often that we see pieces by Drew, especially in this larger size!
