Lonewolf, Joseph – “Mimbres Deer, Antelope, and Ram” Red Lidded Jar (2000)

1"w x 2.25"h (w/ lid)

$ 2,200.00

Joseph Lonewolf began making pottery in 1970-1.  His is one of his few later lidded pieces.  The jar has three etched medallions. Each has a different Mimbres animal.  There is a deer, a Big Horn Sheep, and an antelope.  They are etched into the clay and highlighted with various clay slips.  The neck of the jar has a mountain design.  The lid is red and matte.  Interestingly, Joseph made lidded pieces early in his career, and then a series of them again around 2000.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Joseph Lonewolf”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  Definitely a classic of Joseph’s early pottery style!
