Lonewolf, Joseph – Mini Red Bowl with Mimbres Turkey (1972)
Joseph Lonewolf began making pottery in 1970-1. This is a classic piece of his pottery that is polished red and green. It is a miniature bowl that is fully polished red. One side has a medallion that is incised with a Mimbres turkey. Check out the symmetry of the lines surrounding the turkey!. Did you know that Joseph did all the sgraffito (etching) work before the pottery was fired? That added a great deal of risk to his pottery if it broke in the firing, but also created very clean lines and tightly etched imagery. The bowl is signed on the bottom “Joseph Lonewolf”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
