Maho, Garrett – Large Bowl with Hummingbirds, Turtle Lid and Ribbon (2012)
$ 2,500.00
Garrett Maho is known for his traditional and innovative Hopi-Tewa pottery. This large bowl has a classic shape with a wide shoulder and sloping top. The top has four spiraling hummingbirds and four old-style dragonflies. They are painted with bee-weed (black) and a deep red clay silp. The bowl has a lid in the shape of a turtle and even the bottom of the lid is fully polished! There is a bird painted on the back of the turtle. Both the lid and the turtle were traditionally fired to create the blushes on the surface. The piece is signed on the bottom, “Garrett Maho”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. It has a second place ribbon from the 2012 Tuhisma Hopi Market.
