Manygoats, Betty – 8″ Wide Bowl with Raised Rope Rim

8.5"w x 4.5"h

$ 225.00

Betty Manygoats is known for distinctive Dine (Navajo) pottery with its “folk art” feel to the designs.  She is famous for her pottery with horned lizards as the design. The bowl is coil-built, and there is a raised rope design encircling the piece.  The entire inside of the bowl is also fully polished.  The open space on the raised line is the “spirit line”. The bowl was traditionally fired with strong color variations from the heat of the fire!  After the vase is fired, it is covered in pine pitch in the manner of traditional Navajo pottery.  The piece is signed on the bottom in the clay, “BM.”  Betty has won numerous awards for her pottery over the years.  It can also be found in museums throughout the southwest.
