Elizabeth Manygoats is a daughter of noted potter Betty Manygoats. She is known for her folk-art style pottery with figures in relief or applique on the surface. Elizabeth says that she often emphasizes Navajo women and their daily lives in her work because “They’re the ones I look up to.” This is a large jar that is coil-built and it is VERY thin-walled, The jar has a wide shoulder and flat top. On the top are three horned lizards and three prickly pear cactus in relief. The jar was traditionally fired to create the coloration on the surface. After the firing, it was covered in pinon pitch in the style of traditional Navajo pottery. The piece is signed, “E. M”.
