This long neck jar by Grace Medicine Flower is from 1988.  It is one of her classic shape with the elongated neck. The jar is fully polished to an amazing glassy surface.  The design on the front medallion has a spiral feather pattern in the center, with surrounding hummingbirds and butterflies.  They are each delicately etched into the surface of the piece.  Around the shoulder of the jar are two hummingbirds with rising and setting sun designs.  Separating them is a cloud and feather pattern. Interestingly, Grace always etched the designs into her pottery before they were fired, adding to their complexity and intricacy.  The shape, polishing and design all work together perfectly on this jar!  It is in excellent condition with no chips,cracks restoration or repair. It is signed on the bottom in the clay.  Over her career she made very few black pieces and yet they are always stunning and creative!
