WOW! This is an exceptional bowl from Rochelle Jewel Medlock (b. 2005). She is the daughter of noted potter Autumn Borts-Medlock. The piece is coil-built from native clay, carved, and traditionally fired. The bowl has a clouds carved around the rim. On the sides, there is a carved Pueblo, carved stars, and carved mountains. The Pueblo is carved with design and slipped with mica. The mountains are polished and the snowy peaks are slipped with white clay. The background area that was carved away is slipped with mica. The composition and carved on the bowl are precise with sharp edges. The polished mountains and use of white for the clouds is striking on this bowl. It is an exciting step forward in her clay art! It is signed, “Rochelle Jewel”. It is exciting to see her continue a legacy of clay!
