Rochelle Jewel Medlock (b. 2005) is the daughter of noted potter Autumn Borts-Medlock. The piece is coil-built from native clay, carved, polished, and traditionally fired. The piece is entitled, “About to Bloom”.  The jar has eight melon ribs that are carved into the clay.  Each rib is polished. Rochelle has taken each rib over the rim and rounded them out on the edge, so that they look like a flower that is about to bloom!  Note how she was able to polish over the edge of the bowl!  The area between each rib and the inside of the bowl are slipped with mica to give the piece a bit of sparkle.  It is signed, “Rochelle Jewel”.  It is exciting to see her continue a legacy of clay!
