$ 1,400.00

John Montoya was one of the few potters from Sandia Pueblo. It is one of the smaller pueblos in New Mexico.  This is a spectacular large bowl that is fully painted on the inside and outside.  The bowl itself is round in shape, with a kiva step, or terrace edge.  The outside of the bowl has swirling eagles. The inside has three Katsinas, a kiva ladder in the center, and stalks of corn.  The bowl is painted with clay slips.  It is signed on the bottom, “John Montoya”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  The bowl has a polaroid of him holding the bowl, along with a card signed by him from1996.  It is definintely an important piece of his pottery, along with great ephemera and provenance!
