7.5"w x 11.25"h

$ 1,000.00

John Montoya was one of the few potters from Sandia Pueblo. It is one of the smaller pueblos in New Mexico.  This is a tall jar that is fully painted.  One side has a Mimbres hunter with an antelope, corn, quail, rabbit, and Sandia Sun in the sky.  The opposite side has the hunter holding an antelope along with dogs, a canteen, and clouds in the sky. Each figure is under a polished rainbow. Separating them are Sandia Sun designs.  The bottom band has feather, cloud, and rain motifs.  The entire piece is exceptional in design and flow of imagery.  The jar is painted with clay slips.  It is signed on the bottom, “John Montoya”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
