Moquino, Corn & Nicolasa Naranjo – Black-and-Sienna Wedding Vase with Birds (1980s)
$ 700.00
This is an unusual collaborative piece by Corn Moquino & Nicolasa Naranjo. Nicolasa Naranjo (a niece of Margaret Tafoya) made and polished the wedding vase. She was known for her highly polished and traditionally fired pottery. The wedding vase is Corn Moquino at his very creative best. The designs are etched into the clay after firing. First, take a look at the spouts. They are tightly etched with cloud designs and vertical lines. The sides have additional lines and cloud motifs. The central part of the wedding vase has large medallions, each with two love birds. The birds are looking at each other, and note how they create a heart shape! The background is also highly incised. The birds are two-toned to be black-and-sienna in coloration. The wedding vase is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Corn Moquino” and “Nicolasa”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
