Naha, Nona – Large Seedpot with Four Mimbres Lizards and Corn (1990s)

4.5"w x 5.25"h

$ 800.00

Nona Naha was a Tewa-Hopi of the Corn Clan who began making pottery in 1988. She was the daughter of Sylvan and Edith Nash and the wife of Terry Naha. She learned to make pottery from Helen Naha and her daughters, Sylvia and Rainy Naha.  This seedpot is thin-walled in her signature style  It almost feels as if it is made of paper! The piece has sloping side and it is fully painted. There are two Mimbres lizards on each side. There are ones with triangular geometric designs and ones filled in with Hopi designs.  Between each of the two lizards is a corn stalk. Note how the stalk has ears of corn in different colors!  The entire background is mottled. The seedpot was traditionally fired.  It is signed on the bottom, “Nona Naha”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
