Nampeyo, Priscilla Namingha – Red Wedding Vase with Blackbird Migration Design (1980s)

5.5"w x 9.25"h

$ 975.00

Priscilla Namingha Nampeyo was a great-granddaughter of Nampeyo of Hano and granddaughter of Annie Healing,  She was also a sister of  Dextra Quotskuyva Nampeyo. Priscilla was the matriarch of a family of renowned potters, including Rachel, Bonnie, Nyla, and Jean Sahmie.  Priscilla began making pottery when she was only seven years old, under the guidance of Nampeyo of Hano. This wedding vase is coil-bulit and thin-walled.  It is one of the few we have had made by her from red Hopi clay.  It is painted with the classic blackbird migration pattern around the shoulder of the vase.  It was traditionally fired so there are slight color variations on the surface.  Priscilla was known for her traditional designs, along with the tightly painted designs.  It is signed on the bottom “Priscilla Namingha Nampeyo”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is nice to see such a large and classic-designed piece of her work in the gallery!
