Naranjo-Garcia, Sharon – Black Rainbow Ridge Water Jar with Bear Paws

Sharon Naranjo Garcia (b. 1951) is a granddaughter of Christina Naranjo.  She learned to make pottery from her grandmother and is known for her traditional style of pottery. This is a double shoulder water jar.  The double shoulder is often called a “rainbow ridge” and it is where the clay is pushed out from the inside, not clay added to the surface of the jar.  It has two bear paws impressed into the clay and then the entire piece was stone polished.  It was fired a glassy black.  It is signed on the bottom, “Sharon Garcia”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
