Madeline Naranjo creates beautifully carved and polished pottery. Each piece is pinch-built, carved, stone-polished, and traditionally fired. This is part of a series of tiles that are made from native clay, carved, polished, and traditionally fired. Tiles are difficult to make, as they tend to crack in drying and firing. However, for Madeline, they are the perfect form to tell a story! This tile is entitled, “Calling Us Home”. It has a square shape and there are two carved and polished dragonflies. There is even a tiny sgraffito dragonfly on the edge! It is a combination of polished and matte areas. Her matte areas are sanded and perfectly smooth ,so there are no indentations or areas where the matte might make a shadow. Her designs are always innovative and beautifully executed. The tile is signed, “Madeline Naranjo”.
