Madeline Naranjo creates beautifully carved and polished pottery.  Each piece is pinch-built, carved, stone polished, and traditionally fired.  This jar is a bit larger than many of her pieces. The jar is entitled, “Grandmother” and has two avanyu carved into the clay.  The one on the top of the shoulder is the style of avanyu used by Madeline’s grandmother, Madeline Naranjo.  The one around the body of the jar is the one used by Madeline.  She learned to make pottery from her grandmother and this jar is a beautiful tribute.  The jar is fully polished and even the inside of the neck is polished!  It was fired a glassy black coloration.  Her designs are always innovative and beautifully executed.  The jar is signed on the bottom, “Madeline Naranjo”.

Madeline Naranjo is a granddaughter of Madeline Naranjo. She has known for her deeply carved pottery, which is thin-walled and contrasts matte and polished areas to accentuate the designs.  Each piece is a coil or pinch-built, carved, and stone polished.  They are traditionally fired outdoors to create the black coloration.
