Navasie, Dolly Joe “White Swann” – 12″ Wide Jar with Swirling Birds (1999) Ribbon

Dolly Joe Navasie is best known by her name, White Swann.  She is the daughter of Eunice “Fawn” Navasie and a sister of Dawn and Fawn Navasie.  This large, wide-shoulder jar has an elonagated neck with a turned-out rim. The jar is fully polished and painted with bee-weed (black) and red and burgundy clays.  There are four large swirling Sikyatki birds as the design on the shoulder.  Along the neck are a mesa design in two colors.  The jar was traditionally fired to create the blushes.  It is signed on the bottom, “White Swann”.   It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  There is a Third Place Ribbon from the 1999 Museum of Northern Arizona Hopi Show.
