Navasie, Eunice “Fawn” – 11″ Wide Jar with Interlocking Hummingbirds (1970s)
$ 1,800.00
This is an exceptional water jar by Eunice “Fawn” Navasie. She was a daughter-in-law of Paqua Naha and a sister-in-law of Joy “Frogwoman” Navasie. This jar is coil-built, stone polished, and painted with bee-weed and red clay. The jar has a low shoulder and elongated neck with a red rim. The neck has a checkerboard pattern. The body of the jar has four series of interlocking hummingbirds. They are tightly painted on the jar, yet leaving a lot of open space on the surface of the piece, which was typical of her pottery. The jar was traditionally fired to create the blushes on the surface. Eunice was known for the great colorations from the firing. The jar is signed on the bottom, “Fawn” inside her hallmark deer. This was her signature in the 19670s. It is in very goo condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
