Navasie, Leona -Water Jar with Swirling Sikyatki Birds (1970s)
$ 300.00
Leona Navasie (b. 1939) is a daughter of Joy “Frog Woman” Navasie and a granddaughter of Paqua Naha. She began making pottery in the 1960s. This is one of the few pieces of her pottery we have had in the gallery. The piece has a round shoulder and an elongated neck. There are clouds painted above the shoulder. Around the sides are swirling Sikyatki bird wings. The jar is painted with bee-weed and red clay slip. The piece was traditionally fired. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair. It is signed on the bottom with a frog hallmark and the letters, “LB”.
