Navasie, Marianne – Tall Jar with Bird Designs (1980s)
$ 500.00
Marianne Navasie was a daughter of Joy “Frog Woman” Navasie and a granddaughter of Paqua Naha. This tall jar has a cylindrical shape. It is polished on the inside and outside. The jar is painted with bee-weed and red clay slip. The jar has a series of stylized bird and bird wing designs in each of the four panels. It is a fluid and interesting design and it was traditionally fired to create the blushes on the rim. It is signed on the bottom with a frog hallmark and an M and a tadpole. It is in very good condition with no cracks, restoration or repair. There is a small slip chip in the white near the base (see last photo) and I’ve priced it accordingly.
