Once Known – 12″ Tall Black-on-White Terrace Rim Jar (1915-20)

10"w x 12"h

$ 5,800.00

This is an unusual black-on-white jar from 1915-20. The jar had a round body and an elongated neck.  The rim of the jar has a terrace or stop form.  The rim creates a stylized version of a terrace or mountain rim jar.  The top of the terraces are stone polished. The jar is painted with corn plants and geometric plant patterns.  While the jar is fully painted with dynamic imagery,  there is not enough definitive imagery to give the jar an attribution, so we say it is by a potter and painter once known.  The surface of the jar is a reflection of the traditional firing process.  It is in very good condition with no cracks, restoration, or repair. You might have noticed this jar in two recent paintings by Mary Calengor (see last photo).
