Once Known – San Ildefonso Polychrome Water Jar with Plant Designs (1915-1920)
$ 2,200.00
This is a classic water jar from San Ildefonso Pueblo. It is from around 1915-20. The piece is made from native clay, slipped white and painted. The jar has a sharp shoulder, a short neck, and a turned-out rim. The neck is painted with a cloud design. Above the shoulder are mountains while below the shoulder are plant designs. It has a variety of classic designs that blend together on the jar. It was traditionally fired, giving it the coloration on the surface. It is unsiged and there are just not enough indicators to create a strong attribution. However, it is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
