Pavatea, Garnet – 12″ Wide Open Bowl with Cloud and Rain Designs (1960s)

12.5"w x 5"h

$ 1,200.00

This is a creative large open bowl by Garnet Pavatea.  Garnet was known for her use of corrugated pottery, but also for her utilitarian forms and intricately painted designs. The bowl has wide, open shape and the entire piece is fully polished on both the inside and outside.  The inside rim has a cloud pattern painted with bee-weed (a plant). The outside has an angular rainbow design with rain patterns.  Garnet painted with large, bold designs, as seen on this bowl.  The bowl was traditionally fired so there are light blushes on the surface.  The bowl is signed “Garnet Pavatea”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  However, there are some areas of fugitive black across the surface, as can be seen in the photos.  I have priced the piece accordingly.
