Dominguita Pino (1860–1948) was the mother of noted potter, Tonita Roybal (1892–1945).  Dominguita was famous for her creative forms and designs.  By 1900, she already famous for her black-on-red pottery. Her iconic form had wide shoulder and straight neck extending into a sharply turned-out rim. This shape served as a signature of her pottery and one that was adapted with slight variations by her daughter, Tonita.  This jar has a round body and a straight neck.  It was made by Dominguita and painted by Tonita.  It is a striking example of their black-on-red pottery.  The surface of the jar reflects the traditional firing.  It is in very good condition with no cracks, restoration, or repair. It is featured in Greg Schaaf’s “Pueblo Indian Pottery” and was from the Richard Howard Collection.
